Olga Rubin has been a lot less active than her career from yesteryear. It was only in 2019 that she fought three times. Before that, she had been in four matches back in 2017. Yet, with COVID-19, a series of bad results, Rubin has been much less active. Can she get back to winning ways against Mayra Cantuária on the Invicta MMA streams?
Rubin needs result
The Moscow-born fighter, Olga Rubin MMA, came through the Israeli regional leagues and ascended to Bellator MMA, amassing a 6-0 record before Julia Budd changed the velocity of her career at Bellator 224. That set of body kicks and punches wouldn’t have been that damaging at the time, but it went on to severely damage her career. She’d lose again and splice up results, leading to her contemporary 9-4 record, meaning she’s had a distraught time since 2019, only appearing as a footnote in MMA news.
Now fighting out of London, Rubin is considered a star on the Invicta FC roster. However, her star power and prior fame will only last so long. Last year, she lost to Talita Bernado, a 37-year-old. Realistically, if Olga fails to Mayra Cantuária, she could continue to pad the roster or bow out. A win, however, extends her notoriety. A convincing win could get her a title shot against Jennifer Maia for the bantamweight championship. A match that would get r/mma talking for sure!
Cantuária has her own agenda
Mayra Cantuária isn’t here to make up the numbers. She’s here for very similar reasons as Olga. Her last four fights have seen her go backwards, with three losses and one victory. After dominating opponents in her native Brazil and Japan, she’s after appearing on the LFA 120 card in the US.
She headlined a card last year for Invicta FC, squaring off against Jennifer Maia in an all-Brazilian bout. Maia won via decision, as the fight went all three rounds. Ultimately, Mayra sees herself still at the top end of the roster and knows a win against former Bellator is excellent, which gets her another title shot.
The match could quickly end via submission
Those looking for a match prediction shouldn’t be so eager to bet on the money line but err toward the method of victory. Both women have a penchant for being involved in submission finishes. They prefer to make their opponent tap out…
While not considered a submission specialist, Israeli fighter Rubin has seen her last two matches end this way. In May 2023, she made Claire Guthrie tap out with a buggy choke in the last few seconds of the second round. Rubin would, however, go on to tap out herself to Talita Bernardo via a rear naked choke in June 2024, also in the second round. Those chalk-and-cheese results have left Rubin in flux in the Invicta FC rankings. Considering whether to hang up her MMA gloves.
Mayra Cantuária is also fond of submission finishes. 40% of her wins have been through this method, including her most recent win, a second-round rear naked choke hold that ended Calie Cutler’s night early…albeit back in March 2023.
